Kristen Carlson holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Kennesaw State University and will receive her Master’s degree in Literary Studies from Georgia State University in May 2018. Her literary interests include 19th-Century American Literature, Transcendentalism, and literature and the environment. She teaches Composition and Rhetoric courses at GSU and has worked as a Literature Editor for Share Arts and Literary Magazine and a private writing tutor. Along with her literary experience, Kristen is a certified 200-hour Yoga Teacher and teaches Vinyasa and Hatha yoga at Be Yoga and GSU. In her past life, she was a competitive gymnast and has nine years of experience coaching gymnastics.

For Kristen, the act of writing reveals the habits of the mind to shape ideas and respond to different perspectives in the world. She sees writing as a tool for reflexive thought—an exploration of thoughts, emotions, and intentions. The writing process is not only an act of discovery, but it also allows writers to find an authentic voice and agency over their expression. Overall, she aims to cultivate an interactive, collaborative and creative learning environment where individuals can find their voice while uncovering a new understanding of themselves. She is excited to combine her two passions, writing and yoga, for a meaningful mind and body experience.
